Bronze Figure of a Woman from the Western Zhou Dynasty

Age: Western Zhou, Grade 1

Specifications: Height 11.6cm, weight 0.132kg.

Excavation site: Excavated from Tomb No. 2 of Rujiazhuang National Cemetery in Baoji City in 1975.

The bronze figure is a half-length standing statue, female, with round face and pointed jaw, wide forehead, trident-shaped copper hair ornament on the forehead, two large ears, raised face, prominent cheekbones, delicate eyebrows, pointed nose, plump chest, slender waist, shawl, wearing a double-breasted, left-breasted, wide sleeves and narrow mouth, holding a ring in both hands, dancing. The bronze figure is hollow, with nail holes on the back and oval sockets on the lower body, which should be inserted into the wooden seat when used. When unearthed, it was placed in the coffin room at the head together with bronze ritual vessels, which may be related to sacrificial or witchcraft activities.
