Small square pot with high handle
Bronze ware from the Spring and Autumn Period
28 cm high, 8.9 cm wide at the belly. Excavated from Zhao Qing's tomb in Jinsheng Village, Taiyuan City in 1988. Two pieces in total, identical in size, shape and decoration. The lid has a hip roof, with four symmetrical small ring buttons on it, which are inserted into the main mouth of the pot. The pot has a small square mouth, a slightly retracted neck, sloping shoulders, a bulging belly, and a flat bottom with a high handle and trumpet-shaped foot. The four corners of the lid are decorated with heart-shaped patterns, and two dragons intersect in the shape of a "卍" in the central square. The dragons are raised and curled, and one of them is painted with a black line to indicate the difference between male and female. The body of the pot is decorated with diamond and geometric patterns, and the high handle and ring foot are decorated with three groups of divine bird patterns, with the birds walking with their heads held high or stretching their necks and singing, which has a profound meaning. The decoration of the pot is embedded with black substances composed of various minerals, mainly quartz, feldspar, limonite, cassiterite, malachite and other components. It is exquisitely made and has a rich decorative effect.
