The executioner guards the confinement cart
Bronze ware from the Spring and Autumn Period
9.1 cm high, 13.7 cm long, 11.3 cm wide. Excavated in Shangguo Village, Wenxi County in 1989. Six-wheeled boxcar. There is a double-leaf cover on the top of the car that can be opened. A monkey-shaped handle is embedded in the cover, surrounded by four small birds flapping their wings and about to fly. The wall of the vessel is decorated with phoenix patterns facing each other, and there are animal-shaped decorations. The foot of the vessel consists of six wheels, two large and four small, which can be pulled by a ring and can be pushed and turned by hand. There is a small ring on one side of the wall of the vessel, and a small door on the other side. A person who was punished with amputation stands on the door. He wears a pointed hat, has a disabled left foot, and holds a cane in his left hand. The bolt passes through the right armpit of this person to control the opening and closing of the door. There are 15 rotating parts of the entire vessel, with a total of 14 animals such as monkeys, tigers, and birds. It vividly depicts the scene of the gardens of the Western Zhou nobles "raising birds and beasts in the field", which is consistent with the record of "cutting people to guard the gardens" in "Zhou Li". A masterpiece of bronze art from the late Western Zhou Dynasty.
